Poeta español. Se forma en la corte de Castilla, lo cual motiva su preferencia por el castellano; en Catalán sólo escribe una poesía. Estudia humanismo y es preceptor de la casa de Alba. Ingresa en la milicia y participa en las luchas de Rodas y Viena. Entabla amistad con Garcilaso de la Vega, con quien lidera la revolución italianizante del siglo XVI. Evoluciona desde el uso de la métrica castellana tradicional hasta asimilar el soneto; es el primero en introducir a España los géneros italianos. Aunque lidera la apertura formal, no logra descifrar con claridad los acentos del endecasílabo. Sus esfuerzos, combinados con la calidad de los logros de Gracilazo, llevan a este metro a ser el representativo del Siglo de Oro español. Escribe sonetos y epístolas.

Spanish poet. A Catalan aristocrat, Boscán was a literary figure at the court of Ferdinand V. He introduced Italian poetic forms into Spanish poetry, thus revolutionizing its traditional system of metrics. Among his compositions, written in different combinations of the 11-syllable line, are sonnets and canciones. He also translated Castiglione's Courtier. His works were first printed in 1543 together with those of his collaborator and friend Garcilaso de la Vega.
