John Locke Foundation - English
URL: http://www.johnlocke.org/

shown in filters: Personalia, Organizations

The John Locke Foundation develops and promotes solutions to North Carolina's most critical challenges. An independent think tank based in Raleigh, the Foundation seeks to transform state and local government through competition, innovation, freedom and personal responsibility in order to strike a better balance between the public sector and private institutions of family, faith, community, and enterprise. The Locke Foundation is a source of cutting-edge research, a publisher of breaking news and commentary, and a catalyst for change. George M. Stephens: "John Locke is the intellectual father of our country. While a number of thinkers, stretching from Plato and Aristotle to Blackstone and including Thomas Aquinas, Grotius, Pufendorf, Rousseau, Montesquieu, Hume, and Hobbes made important contributions, this political and social philosopher of 17th century England influenced the author of the Declaration of Independence and the Framers of the Constitution more than any."

The Locke Institute - English
URL: http://www.thelockeinstitute.org/

shown in filters: Personalia, Organizations

The Locke Institute was founded in 1989 as an independent, non-partisan educational and research organization. Named for the philosopher and political theorist John Locke (1632-1704), the Institute ascribes to his theory that society is based on the law of nature and that the individual is the ultimate source of political sovereignty. The Institute endorses Locke's proposition that individuals are possessed of inalienable rights to life, liberty, and property. It is the principal function of the state to uphold these rights since free individuals otherwise would not enter into political society.
