The Charrette project is a complex, scholarly, multi-media electronic archive containing a medieval manuscript tradition--that of Chrйtien de Troyes's Le Chevalier de la Charrette (Lancelot, ca. 1180). It is developed and maintained by the Department of Romance Languages, Princeton University.

Chrйtien de Troyes or Chrestien de Troyes fl. 1170, French poet, author of the first great literary treatments of the Arthurian legend. His narrative romances, composed c.1170–c.1185 in octosyllabic rhymed couplets, include Йrec et Йnide; Cligиs; Lancelot, le chevalier de la charette; Yvain, le chevalier au lion; and Perceval, le conte del Graal, unfinished.

Here is a good example of 'feminine chivalry' from the twelfth century author, and client of Countess Marie de Champagne (one of Eleanor of Aquitaine's daughters), Chrйtien de Troyes. Here are Chrйtien's introductory paragraph, plus three episodes from Lancelot's journey to rescue the kidnapped Queen Guinevere. His journey produced many trials which showed the strength of his love, and his willingness to suffer for Guinevere's sake.
