Carollia: Short-tailed Leaf-nosed Bats - English

These bats, especially C. perspicillata, have the reputation of being pests (Pine 1972b). Apparently they have increased in numbers through the availability of crops as a source of food and buildings as roosting sites. Considerable damage has been reported to mangoes, coffee beans, guavas, pawpaws, almonds, and other cultivated products.
