Diphylla: Hairy-legged Vampire Bat - English
URL: http://www.press.jhu.edu/books/walker/chiroptera/chiroptera.phyllostomidae.diphy

This genus has 26 teeth, in contrast with 22 in Diaemus and 20 in Desmodus. It also differs from the other true vampire bats in its fan-shaped, seven-lobed outer lower incisor, unique among bats. This tooth resembles the lower incisor in gliding lemurs (Dermoptera). Diphylla looks somewhat like Desmodus externally but is usually smaller and has shorter and rounder ears, a shorter thumb without the basal pad, a calcar, and longer, softer fur. Another mark of recognition in Diphylla is the well-haired interfemoral membrane.

Hairy-legged Vampire (Diphylla ecaudata) - English
URL: http://www.nsrl.ttu.edu/tmot1/diphecau.htm

This bat is primarily an inhabitant of tropical and subtropical forestlands. Its daytime retreat is normally a cave which it may share with other species of bats, but it has also been found roosting in mine tunnels and hollow trees. In the Mexican state of San Luis Potosi, Walter Dalquest found that these vampires were more solitary than the common vampire (Desmodus), and they did not gather in groups, even when several individuals inhabited a cave.
