LEPTONYCTERIS: Saussure's Long-nosed Bats - English
URL: http://www.press.jhu.edu/books/walker/chiroptera/chiroptera.phyllostomidae.lepto

These bats may occur in groups of 10,000 or more. During the spring, females of L. sanborni in the northern part of their range form maternity colonies numbering into the thousands (Barbour and Davis 1969). Apparently, adult male L. nivalis also separate from the females in the summer and do not occupy the northern part of the range of the species.

Mexican Long-nosed Bat (Leptonycteris nivalis) - English
URL: http://www.nsrl.ttu.edu/tmot1/leptniva.htm

This is a colonial, cave dwelling bat that usually inhabits deep caverns. The only known colony of these bats in the United States is found in a large cave on Mt. Emory in Big Bend National Park. The number of bats using the cave fluctuates widely from year to year with yearly estimates of population numbers ranging from zero to 13,650.
