Anthorhina Lydekker, 1891, sometimes is used as a genus or subgenus to include M. crenulatum (Husson 1978). Mimon koepckeae, from Huanhuachayo, Peru, was named as a full species by Gardner and Patton (1972) but was reduced to subspecific rank by Koopman (1978a). Mimon cozumelae, from southern Mexico to northern Colombia, has sometimes been considered a species distinct from M. bennettii.
