Pygoderma bilabiatum (Photo 1) is a phyllostomid bat recorded for southeastern Brazil, south central Bolivia, Paraguay and northern Argentina (Koopman 1982, Emmons & Feer 1990, Nowak 1991). In spite of its widespread distribution, local populations seem rare and patchily distributed (Emmons & Feer 1990), and some basic aspects of its natural history, such as diet and reproduction, remain relatively unknown. Pygoderma: Ipanema Bat
- English

The single species, P. bilabiatum, has been reported from Surinam, southeastern Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, and adjacent Argentina; a reported occurrence in Mexico has been shown to be erroneous (Anderson, Koopman, and Creighton 1982; Jones and Carter 1976; Owen and Webster 1983). The vernacular name refers to the type locality, Ipanema, in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
