In Venezuela, Handley (1976) collected V. macconnelli, V. pusilla, and V. bidens mostly near streams and in other moist parts of evergreen forest. These bats probably roost in trees and shrubs. The diet consists largely of fruit (Gardner 1977). Timm (1984) reported that V. pusilla constructs tents from the leaves of Philodendron, in much the same manner as described above in the account of Uroderma. Brooke (1987) described tentmaking in V. nymphaea and found that the number of individuals per tent varied from two to seven. [ eng ] |
