On forested Barro Colorado Island in Panama, Morrison (1980) found Vampyrodes to roost by day in dense foliage and to emerge about 45 minutes after sunset. Its initial flight to a fruiting tree covered an average of 850 meters, and it subsequently visited several more feeding areas in the course of the night. Roosts were changed almost daily, and foraging was curtailed during periods of bright moonlight, apparently as a means of avoiding predation. [ eng ] |
