Rafinesque's Big-eared Bat (Plecotus rafinesquii)
- English
URL: http://www.nsrl.ttu.edu/tmot1/plecrafi.htm
Unlike the closely related P. townsendii, Rafinesque’s big-eared bat occurs in forested regions largely devoid of natural caves. Its natural roosting places are in hollow trees, crevices behind bark, and under dry leaves. It has been observed most frequently in buildings, both occupied and abandoned. [ eng ] |

Plecotus: Lump-nosed Bats, Long-eared Bats, or Lappet-eared Bats
- English
URL: http://www.press.jhu.edu/books/walker/chiroptera/chiroptera.vespertilionidae.ple
These bats are gregarious. Horacek (1975) found the usual number of individuals in summer colonies to be 5-10 in P. auritus and 10-20 in P. austriacus. C. Jones (1977) stated that P. rafinesquii roosts singly or in clusters of 2-100, with females greatly outnumbering males in most colonies. Barbour and Davis (1969) wrote that maternity colonies of P. townsendii contain up to 1,000 females; this species is known to roost in clusters. [ eng ] |
