Uroplatus sikorea Care Sheet - English

Uroplatus sikorae, like the rest of the genus, are nocturnal and arboreal. They are a medium sized Uroplatus species, reaching a maximum of 8 inches (svl), but generally stays around 6-7 inches.

These exciting, nocturnal geckos of Madagascar's primary forests are one of the most bizarre animals on earth. They are very cryptic-looking often totally camouflaged in their natural habitats. The local, native Malagasy people refer to these animals as "taha-fisaka" or devils. While they may look evil, these geckos are totally harmless.

A large nocturnal gecko, by day it plasters it self to a small tree trunk and rests head down. If disturbed it will raise it tail and head, open its mouth and scream. (Glaw, 1994)

This gecko is nocturnal, eyes are large with vertical pupil slits. There are small flaps on the underside of the head and body that break up the outline when pressed against tree trunks. (Glaw, 1994)

Nature's Dead Leaves and Pez Dispensers: Genus Uroplatus (Flat-tailed geckos) - English

There are few reptile genera that can boast more bizarre-looking species than the genus Uroplatus (Flat-tailed geckos). The largest member, Uroplatus fimbiratus, opens its mouth so wide during its threat display, it looks like it has a flip-top head, invoking images of childhood pez dispensers. One of the smaller members, Uroplatus phantasticus, has a morphology that so closely resembles a dead leaf, its tail even has irregular patches missing from the margin to simulate decay.
