Абиссальная зона, зона наибольших морских глубин (более 2 км). Области дна океана с глубинами свыше 6 км обычно выделяются как ультраабиссальные. Рельеф представлен крупными океаническими котловинами, подводными хребтами и плато. Воды характеризуются относительно слабой подвижностью, постоянно низкой температурой (1-2?C, в полярных областях ниже 0?C), постоянной солёностью (34,7*-34,9*), постоянной плотностью; в воде полностью отсутствует солнечный свет.
