Persischer Philosoph und Arzt, * um 980 in Afschana bei Buchara in der heutigen Sowjetrepublik Usbekistan in Mittelasien, † 1037 in Hamadan (Persien). - A. studierte in Buchara Philosophie und Medizin, wurde Leibarzt an verschiedenen Fьrstenhцfen und lehrte in Isfahan (Persien) Philosophie und Medizin. Er entfaltete eine sehr ausgedehnte literarische Wirksamkeit. Von seinen etwa 160 Werken sind die bedeutendsten die im Al-Quanun fi'l-Tibb (Canon medicinae) gesammelten medizinischen Schriften, die jahrhundertelang autoritative Geltung besaЯen, die Kommentare zu verschiedenen Schriften des Aristoteles und seine philosophische Enzyklopдdie Kitab aљ-Љifa' (»Buch der Genesung der Seele«).

Ibn Sina (Avicenna) (980-1037) is one of the foremost philosophers of the golden age of Islamic tradition that also includes al-Farabi and Ibn Rushd. He is also known as al-Sheikh al-Rais (Leader among the wise men) a title that was given to him by his students. His philosophical works were one of the main targets of al-Ghazali’s attack on philosophical influences in Islam. In the west he is also known as the "Prince of Physicians" for his famous medical text al-Qanun "Canon". In Latin translations, his works influenced many Christian philosophers, most notably Thomas Aquinas.

По происхождению таджик, он жил в различных городах на территории Средней АЗИИ и Ирана, занимая должности врача и визиря при различных правителях Востока. Написал множество трудов, главные из которых - "Книга исцеления", "Книга спасения", "Книга знания", "Книга указаний и наставлений" и др.

Abu'l-Walid Ibn Rushd, better known as Averroes (1126-1198), stands out as a towering figure in the history of Arab-Islamic thought, as well as that of West-European philosophy and theology. In the Islamic world, he played a decisive role in the defense of Greek philosophy against the onslaughts of the Ash'arite theologians (Mutakallimun), led by al-Ghazali (d. 1111), and the rehabilitation of Aristotle.

Abu Ali Sina was one of the main interpreters of Aristotle and was the author of almost 200 books on science, religion and philosophy. Avicenna's two most important works are: Shifa (The Book of Healing) and Al Qanun fi Tibb (The Canon of Medicine). The first is a philosophical encyclopedia based on Aristotelian tradition and the second is the most famous single book in the history of medicine. His medical system was long the standard in Europe and the Middle East.

Avicenna (973-1037) was a sort of universal genius, known first as a physician. To his works on medicine he afterward added religious tracts, poems, works on philosophy, on logic, as physics, on mathematics, and on astronomy. He was also a statesman and a soldier, and he is said to have died of debauchery.
