The Oregon Trail was over 2,000 miles from Missouri to Oregon City, Oregon. If not for the Platte and Snake Rivers, the migration West would have been impossible for most settlers. Shortly after Ft. Hall, the pioneers had to make a choice whether to turn right to Oregon or left to California.
