Paavo Haavikko is an unusual poet in that he has a second career as a businessman. He has worked in property, book publishing and newspaper publishing, and now runs his own small press, Art House. In the Finnish Who’s Who he gives his hobby as forestry; in his memoirs, published in 1995, he says that he intends to begin digging peat for fuel from a bog he owns close to the Arctic Circle.
