Nautilus, cephalopod mollusk of genus Nautilus; adult lives in innermost chamber of approximately 36-chambered, coiled shell, 10 in. (25 cm) in diameter; found in seas surrounding East Indies and Fiji Islands; last surviving genus of ancient order Nautiloidea.
