Boxe Francaise Savate is an exciting full-contact ring sport from France. One of a few "authentic" kickboxing styles in the world, Savate is known for mobility, fluidity and rapid-fire kicking and punching combinations. A blend of Asian fighting arts and old English boxing, Savate was developed in the 1800s on the sailing ships and back streets of France.

An empty handed fighting form using the feet, the hands, and other body parts developed from Savate and Chausson. Kicks from the ground, open hand strikes, headbutts, sweeps, elbows and knees are used for self-defense. A limited number of the less dangerous kicks and punches are used in the sport form. Boxe francaise is the end product of long development in both the street and the ring.

Il nome 'SAVATE' fu coniato appositamente dal parigino Michel Casseux per meglio descrivere quello che da lì a poco sarebbe divenuto uno sport conosciuto e praticato anche dalla nobiltà della capitale francese. La SAVATE, che in francese vuol dire 'ciabatta' , era il modo di combattere e di difendersi dei malandrini che popolavano i rioni più' squallidi di Parigi.
