This snake family consists of burrowers, typified by lack of eyes and a blunt tail, resembling a second head. This species is included on the basis of a single specimen deposited in the British Museum, probably collected at the lowest altitude within BINP.

Any of about 150 species of small, burrowing snakes that make up the family Typhlopidae. Their vestigial eyes are buried under the head scales. Most are of the genus Typhlops, which ranges over most tropical areas.

Семейство слепунов объединяет 5-6 родов (более 170 видов), из которых наиболее обширный род Typhlops (около 120 видов) широко распространен в тропических и субтропических областях всех континентов, а 4 остальные рода представлены небольшим числом видов лишь в Центральной и Южной Америке. В последнее время их относят к ящерицам.
