Breitensteinia, A Revision of this Akysid Catfish Genus With Descriptions Of Two New Species
- English
URL: http://www.planetcatfish.com/science/breitensteinia.htm
Sadly, the strange Asian catfishes of the family Akysidae are poorly known to aquarists. These fishes are the so-called Asian banjo catfishes after their similar appearence to members
of the South American family Aspredinidae. Breitensteinia inhabit the middle and upper reaches of rivers in Borneo and Sumatra and the authors found the genus sexually dimorphic.
These are peaceful lethargic fish and in the aquarium they need either a species tank or one with quiet tankmates.

Akysis in Indochina
- English

he family Akysidae is known to hobbyists as the Asian banjo catfishes because of their remarkable resemblance to the South American family Aspredinidae. The authors also note that
Akysis is sexually dimorphic and the males possess a genital papilla. In addition to the six new species below, A. leucorhynchus Fowler, 1934; A. hendricksoni Alfred, 1966; and A.
maculipinnis Fowler, 1934 are discussed in the paper.

Acrochordonichthys; The Malaysian Banjo Catfish
- English
URL: http://www.planetcatfish.com/shanesworld/species/acrochordonichthys.htm
he taxonomy of the genus Acrochordonichthys is presently confused and a revision is badly needed. Roberts (1989) believes that considerable variation exists in colour, development of
epidermal structures and occipital crest, and between the sexes. He concluded that extreme individual variation is the rule in the genus and that the naming of 11 species is simply due to
failure in accounting for such differences. Pending such a revision, two species are tentatively identified from Peninsular Malaysia: A. ichnosoma, and A. rugosus.
