The smallest catfishes we know can be found in the family Scoloplacidae. This family is closely related to the Loricariids and Callichthyids. It's true that the Scoloplacids are widely distributed in South America but within the aquarium trade this group of fishes has until now been totally unknown. Perhaps single specimens are sometimes imported together with other fishes (for example cardinal tetras).
