Movement of Ophiodon elongatus and Sebastes caurinus within a San Juan County "no-take" reserve - English

A decline in the economically and ecologically important bottomfish species in the San Juan Islands has placed serious restraints on the Sebastes caurinus and Ophiodon elongatus sports fisheries. Eight San Juan County voluntary "no-take" reserves were implemented in 1996 to potentially protect and maintain a critical minimum spawning biomass. Acoustic telemetry and Visual Implant Fluorescent Elastomer (VIE) tags were used in an attempt to quantify the home range sizes and densities of S. caurinus and O. elongatus in the voluntary "no-take" reserve at Lime Kiln State Park. Mean densities, calculated for the study site showed 11 S. caurinus/1000m2 and 4 O. elongatus/1000 m2.

Pacific Ocean perch (Sebastes aultus) and yellowtail rockfish (Sebastes flavedus). Note the parasite forms branching hyphae-like structures. Ichthyophonus hoferi has caused massive mortalities in herring in the Atlantic ocean, and has recently been reported to cause disease in wild Pacific herring from Washington through Alaska.

Eastern Atlantic: Kattegat and North Sea, northward to Spitsbergen, southern part of Barents Sea eastward to Kanin Banks and Novaya Zemlya, rare in White Sea, Iceland and eastern Greenland. Western Atlantic: Greenland and southeastern Labrador in Canada to New Jersey in USA.

Lusuer - Sebastes viviparus - Danish

Arten ligner meget på den mer kjente ueren (Sebastes marinus). Lusueren er betydelig mindre; 25-30 cm. Ryggen og kroppssidene er gulrøde/røde, noe lysere enn ueren. Buken hvit. Gjellelokket har ofte en svart flekk i bakkant.
