Greenlings - English

Nine species of greenlings are known to the Pacific coast of the United States and Canada (Robins et al. 1980). Four of the nine species have been found in the study area: they are kelp greenling, Hexagrammos decagrammus; rock greenling, Hexagrammos logocephalus; lingcod, Ophiodon elongatus, and painted greenling, Oxylebius pictus. The kelp greenling, lingcod, and painted greenling are discussed in this chapter.

Distribution: Endemic to the North Pacific. Cirri present on head but no spines or ridges. Scales ctenoid or cycloid. One or five lateral lines. Single dorsal fin; notched. Spines on dorsal fin 16-28; soft rays 11-30. One spine on pelvic fin; soft rays 5. Anterior nostrils well developed.

Терпуговые преимущественно прибрежные и придонные рыбы, личинки их и молодь ведут пелагический образ жизни. В семействе терпуговых 7 родов с 13 видами. Однолинейные терпуги (Agrammus) и бровастые терпуги (Hexagrammos) - очень близкие роды. Одноперые терпуги (Pleurogrammus) имеют стройное тело, приостренную голову, вильчатый хвостовой плавник.
