Ambophthalmos, a new genus for "Neophrynichthys" angustus and "Neophrynichthys" magnicirrus - English
URL: http://www.nrc.ca/cisti/journals/cjz/z98-053.html

shown in filters: Publications

The new genus Ambophthalmos is recognised for "Neophrynichthys" angustus and "Neophrynichthys" magnicirrus, two southern Pacific psychrolutids. A hypothesis of psychrolutid phylogenetic relationships based on parsimony analysis of osteological characters is presented. Two synapomorphic characters suggest that A. angustus and A. magnicirrus form a monophyletic group: the supratemporal is posteriorly fused to the posttemporal and arch 2 is medially fused to its antimere.

Soft sculpins (Psychrolutidae) - English
URL: http://www.arctic.uoguelph.ca/cpl/organisms/fish/marine/soft_scul/soft_intro.htm

These bottom-dwelling fishes are closely allied to a dominant group of fishes in the Arctic, the sculpins. Soft sculpins are distinguished from their relatives by dorsal fins that are continuous and spiny, rather than those of sculpins which are separated into a spiny and a soft-rayed section. They have pelvic fins with one spine and three soft rays, and fewer bones around the eye than sculpins do.

InterNevod: Психролютовые (Psychrolutidae) - Russian
URL: http://www.internevod.com/rus/academy/bio/k_fish/psychrol.shtml
