URL: http://nas.er.usgs.gov/fishes/accounts/paralich/paralich.html

The flatfish family Paralichthyidae comprises 16 genera with at least 85 species (Nelson 1994). This family was formerly considered a subfamily of Bothidae. These fishes are distributed widely in tropical and temperate waters of the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific oceans (Eschmeyer et al. 1983; Nelson 1994). These bottom-dwelling carnivores are asymmetrical, compressed fishes that lack spines in their fins.
