Weedy Seadragon, Phyllopteryx taeniolatus and Leafy Seadragon, Phycodurus eques - English

The common names of the Weedy and Leafy Seadragons refer to the leaf-like appendages on the body. These fishes live among kelp covered rocks below the low tide line in depths from about 3 to 50m.

Weedy Sea Dragons grow to a mature length of about 18 inches (45 cm). They use camouflage as their primary defense, and are found along the reefs and sandy underwater areas of southern Australia. Though relatively common compared to Leafy Sea Dragons, Weedy Sea Dragons are also protected by the Australian government, and subject to strict export controls.

Hábitos de reproducción: Los huevos miden unos 3-4 mm de diámetro y unos 5-6 mm de largo. Los jóvenes tienen 25 mm cuando nacen.

Hábitos de reproducción: Los huevos miden 4mm de diámetro y 7 mm de largo y están parcialmente encajados dentro de la piel, en una especie de bolsas. Incuban durante unos 6 o 7 días. Los jóvenes miden unos 35 mm al nacer.
