An ovophile mouth brooder. According to a report by SCHEUERMANN (1974) in Das Aquarium 8, 439-441: the young leave the mouth of the mother after 40 days at 23-24° C (73-75° F) or after 25 days at 27-28° C (81-82° F). The mother continues to care for the young for about a week after they leave her mouth.

The Labidochromis "electric yellow" at the top of this page that is currently so popular in the aquarium trade was completely unknown to Lewis (and Fryer), and one wonders if it is a locally occurring xanthic color variant of L. caeruleus or possibly a distinct species. In the absence of evidence to the contrary, perhaps from molecular genetics, it is convenient for the present to consider all of the color forms pictured above as belonging to L. caeruleus.

abidochromis caeruleus is a very popular cichlid! The "lemon yellow" variety, shown above, has secured a place in the cichlid hobby because of its bright yellow color. The fish is also available in a blue-white form, but it is rarely seen. Labidochromis caeruleus is a maternal mouthbrooder.

Правильно подобрав виды и потратив совсем немного времени на установку контроля за циклом нитратов, аквариумист получает массу удовольствия от наблюдения за их поведением и успешного разведения, затрачивая минимум усилий по уходу за ними. При этом распространенность их в наших аквариумах не высока.
