Bedotia geayi is a native of Madagascar where it inhabits fast-flowing mountain waters. While not as elaborately colored as many of the rainbows from Australia and New Guinea, it maintains a pleasing contrast of red, black, and gold. The male has two black stripes running parallel to the lateral line, one running from the mouth through the eye to the beginning of the caudal fin and the other lower on the body running from the throat to the back of the anal fin. As well, the caudal fin has a crescent of black circling the outside of the caudal fin leaving the fin lobes a bright red.

Lеnstrдckta akvarier med mycket fritt simutrymme. Plantering i sidorna och i bakgrunden. Vattnet medelhеrt till hеrt (frеn 10 grader dGH) och neutralt (pH ca 7). Tдta fдrskvattenbyten (1/4 till 1/3 per vecka). Arten hеlls bara i stim.

Espиce-type du genre Bedotia; achetй le 1er Octobre 1883, а V. de Robillard, qui avait lui-mкme achetй le matйriel de Madagascar а un taxidermiste de Tamatave qui pourrait кtre A. Langelier; un deuxiиme exemplaire (inscrit sous le numйro 1213.08) de mкme origine se trouvait dans le bocal avec le type: Pellegrin avait examinй les deux spйcimens en 1935 et reconnu l'exemplaire ayant servi а la description originale (in litt.).

Especie muy pacнfica, ignora por completo a los demбs habitantes del acuario. Durante los perнodos de acoplamiento se vuelven mas agresivo. Esta especie, gregaria, necesita mucho espacio y un medio бcido que se mantenga a una temperatura de 22є C.

Населяют о. Мадагаскар. Длина до 15 см, в аквариуме около 7 см. Тело сильно вытянуто в длину, профили спины и брюха равномерно выгнуты. Верхняя половина тела оливково-желтая, нижняя - латунно-желтая. Рыбы стайные, взрослые экземпляры плохо переносят транспортировку и пересадку в другой аквариум. В долго несменяемой воде чувствуют себя плохо, заболевают.
