The following includes 186 taxa that I recognize as occurring or potentially occurring in the Iquitos area as of 1998. This area comprises a radius of about 500 km (see reptile checklist). Please note that this is a working checklist and, as such, contains reference to unpublished or undescribed taxa. Common names in English are in the process of being standardized. Included are 3 orders, 12 families, and 44 genera as follows: frogs (8 families, 36 genera, 165 species); salamanders (1 family, 1 genus, 4 species); and caecilians (3 families, 7 genera, 17 species).
