Ecuadorian novelist. Icaza wrote in harsh, realistic terms against the exploitation of the Native American. His novel En las calles [in the streets] won him acclaim in 1935. Among his other works are the novels Huasipungo (1934), Cholos (1938), and El chulla Romero y Flores (1958) and the short stories collected in Relatos (1969).

Novelista ecuatoriano. Empleado modesto y actor teatral, conoció la fama con su novela Huasipungo (1934), una de las obras más representativas de la literatura indigenista americana. Entre su producción de tono social, destacan En las calles (1935), Cholos (1938), Media vida deslumbrados (1942) y El chulla Romero y Flores (1958). Es autor también del libro de cuentos Seis veces la muerte (1953).

Jorge Icaza (1906-78), ecuadoransk forfatter, repræsenterer den indigenistiske litteratur. Icaza blev født i Quito, Ecuador. Han skrev i 1933 det teatralske værk El dictador, og dette blev i 1934 fulgt af Huasipungo der anses for at være landets mest berømte roman og en indigenistisk roman par excellence.
