Pascal's Wager - English URL: http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/pascal-wager/
"Pascal's Wager" is the name given to an argument due to Blaise Pascal for believing, or for at least taking steps to believe, in God. The name is somewhat misleading, for in a single paragraph of his Pensйes, Pascal apparently presents at least three such arguments, each of which might be called a `wager'---it is only the final of these that is traditionally referred to as "Pascal's Wager". We find in it the extraordinary confluence of several strands in intellectual thought: the justification of theism; probability theory and decision theory, used here for almost the first time in history; pragmatism; voluntarism (the thesis that belief is a matter of the will); and the use of the concept of infinity. Contents: The Argument from Superdominance, The Argument from Expectation, The Argument from generalized expectations: "Pascal's Wager", Objections to Pascal's Wager. Bibliography

Blaise Pascal (1623 - 1662) - English URL: http://www.pascal-central.com/blaise.html
From "A Short Account of the History of Mathematics" (4th edition, 1908) by W. W. Rouse Ball. Among the contemporaries of Descartes none displayed greater natural genius than Pascal, but his mathematical reputation rests more on what he might have done than on what he actually effected, as during a considerable part of his life he deemed it his duty to devote his whole time to religious exercises.

Хроники Харона (Паскаль Блез) - Russian URL: http://xx.lipetsk.ru/xx_21_15_04.shtml
