Der Schwarzkopfpython (Aspidites melanocephalus)ist außer den Chondros unser absoluter Liebling, wir kennen keine Schlange die über eine so ausgeprägte Neugierde verfügt. Jeder Besuch im Terrarienraum wird sofort sehr aufmerksam verfolgt, dabei erheben sie den Kopf wie eine Kobra und reagieren auf jede Bewegung. Öffnet man dann das Terrarium begeben sie sich sofort auf Wanderschaft, es sind wirklich herrliche und immer aktive Tiere, mit einem gewaltigen Appetitt.

A genus of but two species wholly confined to continental Australia. They are deemed the most ancestral of living pythons, being the only species in the family that completely lack heat-sensing lip pits.

Australia has four (currently recognised) genera of python, namely, Aspidites, Chondropython, Liasis and Morelia, of which Aspidites is the only genus confined to mainland Australia. In this article I shall discuss the genera Chondropython and Aspidites leaving the other two genera for later articles.

") This endemic and unique Australian genus comprises only two species. Both grow to a large size (2.5m) and are characterised by a moderately robust body and a smallish, round snouted head which, unlike other Australian pythons, is indistinct from the neck.
