Ñòàíîâëåíèå àëáàíñêîé ëèòåðàòóðû íà÷àëîñü â 19 â., íî ñîõðàíèëîñü íåìàëî òåêñòîâ áîëåå ðàííåãî âðåìåíè. Ðèìñêî-êàòîëè÷åñêàÿ êðåùàëüíàÿ ôîðìóëà íà àëáàíñêîì ÿçûêå áûëà îïóáëèêîâàíà â 1462, à ñîõðàíèâøèéñÿ îòðûâîê ïåðåâîäà Íîâîãî Çàâåòà íåêîòîðûå ó÷åíûå äàòèðóþò 14 â. Ñòàðåéøåé àëáàíñêîé êíèãîé ñ÷èòàåòñÿ êàòîëè÷åñêèé òðåáíèê, îïóáëèêîâàííûé â 1555 ñâÿùåííèêîì ïî èìåíè Áóçóêó.
