Glossary of Phylogenetic Systematics - English
URL: http://members.tripod.de/GBechly/glossary.htm

shown in filters: Guides et annuaires

This text is a revised translation of my stencilled handout-manuscript for different courses on metazoan morphology, systematics and phylogeny at the Eberhard-Karls-University of Tübingen / Germany, under the supervision of Dr Gerhard Mickoleit. The definitions and comments refer to Phylogenetic Systematics sensu HENNIG (1959, 1982, 1984), SCHLEE (1971, 1978, 1981), AX (1984, 1988), WILLMANN (1985, 1989) and SUDHAUS & REHFELD (1992), rather than to computer-cladistics and Pattern-Cladism that seem to be more «en vogue» today.

Towards a Cladistic Taxonomy - English
URL: http://www.town.morrison.co.us/dinosaur/towards.html

"In an ideal classification scheme, every named taxon should represent a single clade (i.e. a common ancestor and all of its decendants). It is not practical for every clade to be a named taxon, because of the sheer number of names that would be required. Thus, in a theoretically optimum cladistic taxonomy, any taxon must be permitted to contain more than two divisions, each of which is a single clade. Given sufficient knowledge of species' relationships, this may eventually be achievable for living species. It cannot be realized for fossil species."

Phylogenetic Analysis Computer Programs - English
URL: http://phylogeny.arizona.edu/tree/programs/programs.html

Here is a list of some programs we know of that perform some sort of phylogenetic analysis, or which we think might be useful to phylogeneticists. This list is far from complete, and more programs will be added, as well as more information about the listed programs.
