Kubachi belongs to the North Caucasian linguistic family, Nakh-Daghestanian (East Caucasian) group, Lak-Dargwa subgroup. According to another point of view, the Dargwa speech community forms a separate linguistic subgroup, and Kubachi, whether language or dialect, belongs to this subgroup.
