These dolphins are gregarious. Group size may be up to 1,000 in L. acutus and 1,500 in L. albirostris. Groups are usually much smaller, however, especially in the western Atlantic (Leatherwood, Caldwell, and Winn 1976; E. D. Mitchell 1975a); off Canada, L. acutus generally is seen in groups of only 6-8 [ eng ] |
