Em relação à herpetofauna da Amazônia brasileira, são conhecidas atualmente cerca de 87 espécies de lagartos (ÁVILA-PIRES, 1995) e, somente na região de Manaus, foram registradas 61 espécies de anfíbios anuros (TOCHER, 1998) e cerca de 100 de répteis Squamata.
