Antoine Cadillac (1658? -1730) was born in Gascony, France and grew up in Les Languedoc. He also went to Nova Scotia and Maine. He was an army officer in France. He was a captain/administrator in a French army in Canada. Also he was a French colonist and became the governor of French Louisiana.

Cadillac was born at St. Nicolas de la Grave, France. Little is known of his early life. Though he made every effort to convince people that he was possessed of an aristocratical background,1 it is likely that he was born to a middle class family.

French colonial governor in North America, founder of Detroit. Of the minor Gascon nobility, he came to America in 1683 to seek his fortune and lived for a time at Port Royal (now Annapolis Royal, N.S.) and then on a grant of land in present-day Maine.

Born at Toulouse in 1657; died at Castelsarrasin, 16 October, 1730. He was the son of a parliamentary councillor, and entered the army at the age of sixteen. Sent to Acadia in 1683 he served in the Port Royal garrison, studied the conditions of the English colonies, and in 1689 proposed the conquest of New York and Boston.
