historyk francuski, badacz dziejów reformacji i renesansu. W latach 1912-1914 profesor uniwersytetu w Dijon, od 1920 w Strasburgu, od 1933 kierownik katedry historii kultury nowożytnej w Collège de France. Współtwórca tzw. szkoły syntezy historycznej, głoszącej teorię historii integralnej, obejmującej wszystkie dziedziny życia, dostrzegając przy tym zmienność form na przestrzeni dziejów. W 1929 współzałożyciel czasopisma Annales d'Histoire Économique et Sociale, które zyskało międzynarodową sławę.

Sept. 27, 1956, Saint-Amour French historian of the early modern period and organizer of major national and international intellectual projects. In his books and editorial efforts, Febvre embraced a global history that rejected all forms of pedantry and determinism.
