The Scoliid wasps (22 NA spp) are very large and marked in yellow and black. They are frequently seen coursing with a low erratic flight over exposed sandy areas. They also regularly visit flowers (Solidago spp). They are parasitic upon soil inhabiting beetle grubs. The wasp locates the host, deposits an egg upon it, and the larva develops externally. Two species have been collected. The most common is Campsomeris plumipes-confluenta(STS, HAS, SEB). Trielis octomaculata has been taken from HAS.
