The single species, N. concolor, occurs on the Mentawai Islands, off western Sumatra. Groves (1970a) included Simias within Nasalis, based on the close resemblance of the two in cranial features, limb proportions, and hair pattern. The differences in the nose and tail were regarded as superficial.
