Francis Selormey was born near Keta on the coast of Ghana in 1927. He was educated in Roman Catholic primary schools as well as at St Augustine's College, Cape Coast. He studied physical education in Ghana and Germany and for seven years taught the subject at St Francis Teacher Training College, Hohoe.
