Peter Nazareth is a Professor in African American World Studies and the Department of English. Although he had taught before going to England, after his return to Uganda from Leeds, he worked in the Ministry of Finance, where he was Senior Finance Officer when he left in early 1973 to accept the Seymour Lustman Fellowship at Yale University, granted because of his first novel, In a Brown Mantle, which prophesied the coup and the expulsion of Asians. He was invited to the University of Iowa as an Honorary Fellow in the International Writing Program and to teach African literature in the Afro-American Studies Program.
