Poeta salvadoreño. Sufrió arrestos y una condena a muerte durante sus años de estudiante. Vivió en Cuba y fue asesinado por un grupo guerrillero al regresar a su país. Su producción poética es tierna, irónica y corrosiva (La ventana en el rostro, 1961; El turno del ofendido, 1963; Los testimonios, 1964; La taberna y otros argumentos, 1969).

Roque Dalton was born on May 14, 1935, in San Salvador, El Salvador. His father was one of the members of the outlaw Dalton brothers and his mother was a registered nurse whose salary supported the family. After a year at the University of Santiago, Chile, Roque Dalton attended the University of San Salvador in 1956, where he helped found the University Literary Circle just before the Salvadoran military set fire to the building.
