Daisy Cubías, a native of El Salvador, is a poet, educator, and a long-time human rights activist. She left El Salvador as a young woman to study and work in the United States, and moved to Milwaukee in 1970. In the early 1980s, her brother, sister, and sister's husband were murdered by the Salvadoran armed forces. Much of her poetry and activism is a response to the horror and tragedy of events in her native country.
