Freshwater Gastropods of North America - English
URL: http://www.cofc.edu/~dillonr/fwgnahome.htm

The Freshwater Gastropods of North America project is a long-term, collaborative effort to inventory and ultimately monograph all 15 families of freshwater snails inhabiting the continent north of Mexico. Our primary motive is the conservation of a fauna more imperiled than understood. Phase I of the project involves the review and compilation of all museum holdings. In Phase II, regionally organized teams will survey local freshwater gastropod faunas, compiling modern distributional records into a primary database. Phase III teams (organized taxonomically) will identify, review, and if necessary revise the taxa, ultimately producing species accounts giving descriptions, illustrations, synonymy, bibliography, ecology, and current distributional maps on a continental scale.

ABNET - English
URL: http://www.uct.ac.za/depts/zoology/abnet/index.html

At the 1994 Abalone Symposium it was decided that communication between abalone researchers could be facilitated by setting up a listserver for posting of messages. This was done by Neville Sweijd of UCT. In 1995 it was decided to takes this one step further by distributing information via a worldwide web server. These pages are the result and the role of ABNET has now expanded somewhat. The ABNET listserver is still operating as it has before and you can subscribe and post to ABNET via these pages. The ABNET Archives will be viewable here for members and will be regularly updated. Input and suggestions are welcome from any members who have any abalone related information which will be stored under the relevant categories. The various facilities available through ABNET are listed below.

Class Gastropoda - English
URL: http://www.sidwell.edu/us/science/vlb5/Labs/Classification_Lab/Eukarya/Animalia/

Class Gastropoda are the largest group of mollusks, with between 40,000 and 75,000 species. These are also the only mollusks that live on land. Gastropods, like class Schapoda, lack gills, and use the mantle as a makeshift lung for extracting oxygen and breathing. Most species have coiled shells, and this class has evolved tentacles and eyes. This class includes marine animals like the sea slug and terrestrial animals like the slug and snail.
