Arthur Miller's powerful drama gets a somewhat shabby production here by a consortium of Italian and French filmmakers. Although the story is set in Brooklyn (location shots were done there), the interiors were all shot in Paris, with a cast of French, Italian, and American actors.

Arthur Miller initially had the concept for Death of a Salesman when Miller was 17 years old and working at his father's company. The original story was about an aging salesman who has no luck with his sales and is ridiculed by his potential customers. In the postscript for the manuscript, Miller noted that the person on which the story was based ended up killing himself by throwing himself in front of a subway train.

Arthur Miller (1915 - ) - English URL: http://www.imagi-nation.com/moonstruck/clsc10.htm
Arthur Miller's first success came in 1947 with All My Sons for which he won the New York Drama Critics Circle award. Although it lacked the originality of some of his later works, this family drama, which told the story of a factory owner who caused the death of several American pilots during World War I by selling defective parts to the government, dealt with issues of guilt and dishonesty that Miller would revisit and expand upon in some of his more memorable plays.
