`Reciprocal relations' between causes and effects are well-known in dynamics, acoustics, elasticity etc., and have been much studied. The `flux-ratio' theorems in physiology, discovered experimentally by Ussing, and explored theoretically by Bass, McNabb and others, fit into this general framework, at least in linear cases. Then they too can be related to symmetries of Green's functions. Results for flux-differences, or for flux-ratios in nonlinear cases, are not so easily categorized.
