Selected Families of Angiosperms: Asteridae. "Cronquist (1981) defined this subclass as a taxon of 11 orders, 49 families and nearly 60,000 species. He states that "the vast majority of the Asteridae can be distinguished from the vast majority of other dicotyledons by their sympetalous flowers, in which the stamens are isomerous and alternate with the corolla lobes, or fewer than the corolla-lobes".
