The family Goodeidae, whose members are also called splitfins or springfishes, comprises about 19 genera with about 40 species found in west central Mexico and
the southwestern United States. Four species are native to the United States, all in Nevada and associated with spring habitats. Goodeids are small fishes; most species are less than 10 cm long. [ eng ] |

Distribution: Nevada and west central Mexico. In Goodeinae, fertilization internal;
viviparous; males with the anterior rays of anal fin crowded, shorter, and partly separate
from rest of fin (suspected as a primitive gonopodium called pseudophallus). Ovaries
